HOW CANWORK WORKS
Receive personalized support throughout your participation
WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
CanWork Provides an experience that is comparable to the UVic Work Experience Program (WEP). Together, with other students in the CanWork program, you will participate in Co-op + Career Services pre-work term course with attention to navigating co-op as a person identifying as having a disability. And just like WEP, you will be supported in your work search efforts to find a job that best fits your interests and needs.
INTRODUCTION TO PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Just like all co-op students at UVic, you are required to complete a pre-work term preparation course called Introduction to Professional Practice (IPP) before you start your work term. Within IPP, your job coach and course instructor will help you reflect on your access needs, accommodations and self-advocacy strategies you might need to succeed in the workplace. You can learn more about IPP here.
CANWORK WORK TERM
Once you have secured a work term you will be supported to complete the required competency assessments, engage in a work site visit with your job coach and/or coordinator, and be expected to submit a work term report (or alternate final submission). Completion of a successful work term will be noted on your transcript and will teach you invaluable transferable skills!
