CANWORK
A work experience program to support students who identify as having a disability
"...I learned about seeking employment and navigating the workplace as an employee living with a
disability, and gained invaluable tools around disclosure. With the multitude of indispensable
skills I acquired through this program, I now feel more than prepared to search for employment on
my own."

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
WHAT IS CANWORK?
CanWork is an employment program that supports students who identify as having a disability or mental health challenges as they engage in meaningful, paid, degree-related work experience during their degrees and develop tools for long-term success.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Built on the experience of a 2020 pilot program in partnership between the University of Victoria’s CanAssist and the Co-operative Education Program, CanWork aims to increase the participation of students who self-identify as having challenges in degree related experiences.
WHAT MAKES CANWORK UNIQUE?
Through the program, job coaches can support participants while on their work sites, helping students
to master their tasks, achieve independence and contribute to the workplace. As part of this program,
participants’ employment readiness will be measured pre- and post-employment.
